About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Woodworking Designer with strong experience in shop drawing preparation, woodworking design, and SketchUp modeling. This is a hands-on technical role focused primarily on producing accurate, fabrication-ready woodworking shop drawings for custom furniture, cabinetry, built-ins, and millwork projects.
You will transform room measurements, reference photos, sketches, and design concepts into detailed drawings that a workshop can build from. While creating realistic 3D renderings is part of the role, technical drawing accuracy and woodworking construction expertise are the primary requirements.
If you have never prepared woodworking shop drawings for projects that were actually fabricated, this role is likely not the right fit.
What You'll Do
- Prepare detailed, dimensioned shop drawings for custom woodworking projects
- Convert room measurements, sketches, reference photos, and design concepts into fabrication-ready drawings
* Produce:
- Front, side, and top views
- Elevations
- Sections
- Detailed component drawings
* Specify material thicknesses for:
- Plywood
- MDF
- Solid wood
- Other panel materials
- Create accurate 3D models in SketchUp
- Produce realistic renderings that help clients visualize finished projects
- Review designs for fabrication feasibility and constructability
- Maintain dimensional consistency and quality control across all drawings
- Collaborate with the internal team to understand project requirements and priorities
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Professional experience preparing dimensioned woodworking shop drawings
- Strong proficiency with SketchUp for 3D modeling
- Experience using SketchUp-compatible rendering software
