Technical Support Engineer – Database Administrator

Our client’s client is one of the fastest-growing open-source database mature startups in the world. With global office locations, they are just starting to grow their US presence. About The Role:
    • Technical Support Engineer work at the intersection of our client services and engineering teams and drive customer success by helping identify and resolve critical business issues. In this role you’ll interact directly with our customers to provide software development and operations expertise, leveraging deep knowledge of best practices in the use of the internal database, the ecosystem tools and Cloud. You will be hands-on in fixing issues seen by PingCAP customers and contributing fixes back to the open-source community. Throughout all of these interactions, you’ll build strong relationships with customers, ensuring exemplary support and timely resolution to customer requests.
 
What we are looking for:
    • Strong background in Linux/Unix administration;
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in designing, building, testing, and maintaining enterprise software applications;
    • Working understanding of code and script in Python, Shell, or Golang;
    • Experience with web server, distributed system, load balancing, and system monitoring;
    • Familiarity with the setup, configuration, and optimization of Nginx, LVS, Keepalived, Zabbix, MySQL, Redis, etc.;
    • Docker/Kubernetes knowledge is a strong plus;
    • Experience in one or more public cloud environment, e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform;
    • Experience in automated operations using Puppet, Ansible, or SaltStack;
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science strongly preferred;
    • Willingness to travel to customer sites.
 
What you will get to do:
    • Orchestrate the deployment and upgrades of the core database cluster both in the client’s private environments and in the cloud;
    • Be responsible for product deployment, configuration management, system monitoring, and online diagnosis;
    • Provide on-premise service to enterprise customers;
    • Facilitate upgrades, patches, maintenance, and operations of the cluster;
    • Deliver quality service to customer’s requests in a timely and professional manner;
    • Provide best practices guidance and support for architecting and building our customers specific solution;
    • Build required infrastructure to automate deployment pipeline;
    • Deliver application-level root-cause analysis, suggesting code optimization,s and assist with integrations;
    • Coordinate enhancement and feature requests with product and engineering teams.
 
What gives you an edge:
    • Experience in technical support of databases (MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, MongoDB, etc) or big data systems (Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Hadoop, Spark, etc) is a strong plus;
    • Experience in operating MySQL, Cassandra, Postgres and other transactional databases in a production environment is a strong plus;
    • Experience in operating databases in Kubernetes or public cloud environments is a strong plus.
