Video Editor

Video Editor — Short-Form Social (with Long-Form Range)

Honey Badger Labs | Remote | Contract (with room to grow)

About us

Honey Badger Labs is a positioning and growth agency for early-stage startups. We help seed-stage companies across industries reposition themselves to avoid becoming a commodity product. We then execute that position through social, ads, and outbound. No two clients look the same, which is the fun part (and kind of the point). We're a small, fast-moving shop, so you'll work directly with the founder and have real ownership over the content you cut.

The role

We're looking for a video editor whose home turf is short-form social — TikTok, Reels, Shorts, LinkedIn video — but who can also handle longer-form work when it comes up (founder interviews, product walkthroughs, webinar cuts, event recaps).

Most weeks, the job looks like: taking raw footage (founder talking heads, screen recordings, UGC-style clips, event footage) and turning it into scroll-stopping short-form content. Some weeks, it means cutting a 10–20 minute interview into something people actually want to watch — plus pulling the best moments out as clips.

What you'll do

  • Edit short-form vertical video for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and LinkedIn — captions, pacing, hooks, sound design, the whole thing
  • Cut longer-form content (interviews, product demos, webinars) when needed, and repurpose it into short-form clips
  • Work across multiple client brands, each with its own voice and visual style
  • Collaborate on creative direction — we want someone with opinions on what makes a video work, not just someone who executes a shot list
  • Turn around edits quickly and handle feedback rounds without drama
  • Keep projects organized (file naming, versioning, asset management — boring but important)

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years editing video, with a portfolio heavy on short-form social content that performed
  • Fluency in Premiere Pro, CapCut, and/or DaVinci Resolve — whatever your stack is, you're fast in it
  • Strong instincts for hooks, pacing, and retention — you understand why someone keeps watching past second three
  • Motion graphics and captioning chops (After Effects a plus, not required)
  • Comfortable with B2B and startup content, not just lifestyle/entertainment (but would love some lifestyle inspiration bc B2b and startups can get really boring otherwise)
  • Self-directed — we'll give you context and footage, you take it from there
  • I don't care where you live, but you need to have some decent overlap with Pacific time hours.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Bonus: experience editing for founders or personal brands on LinkedIn

What this is (and isn't)

This is a contract role to start, with consistent monthly volume across our client portfolio and room to expand as we grow. It's not a 9-to-5 with a content calendar handed to you. You'll be working with a small team where your taste actually shapes the output.

Compensation

This role is part time and contract to start and will be an hourly rate. We usually have a very fast interview process and then we'll do a paid work test. If that goes well, we start working together. If you do well we will work to get you full time asap. Wellfound requires a salary on the job posting but please note it is hourly to start not full time.

How to apply

If you don't send the following, you'll be immediately DQed:

  1. Your portfolio or 3–5 examples of short-form work you're proud of (links, not files)
  2. One example of longer-form work, if you have it
  3. A link to someone else's short-form video you think is brilliantly edited, and why
