At In Tandem, we build technology that helps families manage everyday routines and navigate life’s biggest transitions. Through our four brands—OurFamilyWizard, Cozi, FamilyWall, and Custody Navigator—we help families stay organized, communicate well, and foster healthy childhoods.
We believe technology should strengthen relationships and make daily coordination less complicated. Everything we create is designed to lighten the mental load, reduce conflict, and support families through big and small moments.
If you want your work to make a real difference in the daily lives of parents and kids, In Tandem is the place where your impact will truly matter.
As a Staff+ Builder, you’re on the frontier of continuously redefining how we deliver software and exercise judgement in a constantly evolving landscape — a true AI-native builder expanding products and how they get built. Some of the best work here starts with no brief, no team and no playbook. We want someone who sees that as the appeal: who takes an idea from zero to one and cares personally whether it gets traction. This role exists to bring that way of working into In Tandem, wherever the organization needs it most.
This is an evergreen role. We will shape the specific team and scope with you as we learn where your strengths meet the most important opportunities across our products and platform. As we move through conversations, we will discuss the concrete problem area, collaborators, and expectations for the opening we are considering together.
What you will do:
- Seek out problems worth building for. Talk with users, learn from support and product data, and pay attention to changes in our markets. Turn those signals into a clear view of what matters, then take initiative inside shared priorities, and bring partners along as you learn.
- Take it from zero to one. Start where there is no structure. Get a first version in front of real users quickly, find out whether anyone cares, and do the unglamorous work that earns early traction. Own the outcome, not just the code.
- Carry useful work into production. Shape a focused first version, build it, and learn from real use. Define how you will judge success before you build, then use the evidence to improve, expand, or stop the work.
- Raise the pace and quality of engineering. Identify places where an AI-enabled workflow can shorten the path from idea to shipped software. Build the tools, context, checks, and feedback loops that let other engineers use it with confidence.
- Own the hard decisions. Move work forward when requirements are incomplete, make your reasoning visible, and bring consequential tradeoffs to the right partners. Choose when to prototype, when to invest in durable architecture, and how to verify that a system is correct, safe, and useful.
- Connect the pieces. Work across product and engineering boundaries. Bring depth in a core platform and enough range across APIs, web, mobile, and infrastructure to help a feature succeed end to end.
- Make others stronger. Share working examples, explain tradeoffs clearly, invite criticism, and help teams adopt what proves effective.
What strong work could look like:
The shape of the work will depend on the team. Examples include:
- Recognizing a recurring difficulty in a family workflow, validating it with users and partners, and shipping a focused improvement across client and service boundaries.
- Launching something small with no existing team or process, getting it to its first real users, and iterating on their feedback until it was adopted or you chose to stop.
- Turning a promising agent prototype into a reliable engineering workflow with evaluation, tests, observability, and clear human review points.
- Removing a recurring bottleneck in delivery so teams can make more high-quality changes with less coordination.
- Connecting an emerging user or market need to our product strategy, testing the opportunity with a small build, and using the result to decide whether it deserves more investment.
These are examples of the work this role might own, not claims that those projects are planned or assigned.
What you bring:
What you bring
- Staff-level impact as a hands-on engineer: you have shaped technical direction, built important systems, and helped other people deliver stronger work.
- An owner’s mindset. You’ve started something with little structure, such as a product, feature, internal tool, open-source project or company. You stayed with it through the early phase until it found users or you learned it wouldn’t.
- Evidence that you can move from an uncertain problem to a useful result. You know how to test a premise with a prototype and how to recognize when a prototype needs stronger engineering before it can be trusted in production.
- Product judgment and curiosity about users and markets. You can explain why a problem mattered, how you chose it with others, and what changed for users or the business because of what you built.
- Practical fluency with AI-assisted development. You have used models or agents to build real software or workflows, and you can explain where they helped, where they failed, and how you checked the result.
- Strong judgment about architecture, quality, security, and user experience. You know which decisions need close attention and which can be accelerated.
- Depth in at least one engineering area, with the curiosity and fundamentals to work effectively across the stack.
- Low ego, high integrity, and a habit of making your reasoning visible so others can learn from and improve it.
What will stand out
Show us a piece of work you helped take from an uncertain opportunity to a useful result. If it started from zero, tell us what you did to get the first users and what you did when nobody was available to help. What user or market signal made the problem worth pursuing? How did you choose the direction with your partners? What did you build yourself, what reached production, and how do you know it made a difference? If AI or agents played a part, tell us what you delegated, how you evaluated the output, and what you changed when the first approach fell short. A strong account of a failed experiment and the judgment it sharpened is welcome.
You may have built that work in a product company, a small team, open source, or a path that does not fit a conventional résumé. The evidence matters more than a particular employer name or tool list.
