Payroll Operations Review Specialist

About the role
Wexus Win Works is putting together a small team to do an independent review of payroll operations at a large Colorado public school district. This isn’t a payroll processing job. You’ll look at how payroll work is organized across the district and recommend practical improvements to structure, staffing, workload and ownership.
What you’ll do
Review the payroll team’s org structure, staffing levels, roles and workload
Map the key handoffs between Payroll, HR, Benefits, Finance and school sites, and find where ownership is unclear, duplicated or missing
Spot upstream issues that cause rework, such as late or incorrect HR changes, timekeeping problems, stipends and retro pay
Run focused interviews and small group sessions with payroll staff and partner departments
Work mainly from the district’s existing documents, not big new data requests
Help write a concise findings report with a prioritized action list, and help present it to district leadership
Flag where better use of existing technology could cut manual work (no system configuration involved)
What you need
8+ years in payroll operations, payroll management or payroll process consulting
Experience in a school district, county, city or other public-sector organization
Solid understanding of how payroll connects with HR, benefits, position control and finance
Experience recommending process or organizational improvements, through an internal review, audit, consulting project or system transition
Clear writing and the ability to interview staff at all levels with tact
Two or three professional references who can speak to your payroll or process improvement work
Eligible to work in the US, with a clean background check
Nice to have
K-12 payroll experience: certified and classified staff, stipends, extra-duty pay, union contract pay rules
Experience with Infor CloudSuite or another major ERP payroll system
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or similar certification
Colorado public-sector experience
