Instructional Coach – International Teachers

Location: Northern Virginia.

This is a field-based position with no regular office attendance required. Most working hours will be spent visiting schools across Northern Virginia to provide hands-on instructional coaching and classroom support to international teachers. Schedule: Part-time or consulting contract, approximately 25–40 hours per week during the school year.

Love What You Do and Why You Do It!

Join a mission-driven organization dedicated to empowering students for a global future. At Participate Learning, we have partnered with schools since 1987 to prepare students for career success through cultural exchange, dual language, and global learning programs. Our goal is to help students develop essential bilingual fluency, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As an Instructional Coach, your primary role is to provide instructional support to international teachers in their classrooms. This position requires the flexibility to travel to elementary and secondary schools in Northern Virginia school districts to support international teachers as they adapt to US teaching practices, with a focus on classroom management and instruction for our first-year Ambassador Teachers. As an experienced teacher and/or instructional coach, you will work with international teachers to help translate their teaching experience into success in US classrooms.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom management: Observe and coach international teachers to enhance their abilities and confidence. Work with them to establish and enforce rules to maintain an orderly classroom environment, setting students and the teacher up for the best learning.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work with teachers to review lesson plans, suggest instructional techniques, and provide ongoing feedback to elevate teacher effectiveness.
  • School-wide Support: Support schools’ and Participate Learning’s policies and procedures across teachers, classrooms, and students. Work closely with Participate Learning Instructional Specialists and building administrators to provide scaffolding support to international teachers and classrooms.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in education
  • Experience: Recent US K-12 teaching experience; experience as an instructional coach is a plus! This would be a great opportunity for a recently retired teacher or coach to share their expertise and make an impact!

Essential Qualifications

  • You must be located in Northern Virginia and willing to travel within the metro area.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel between schools.
  • You must be authorized to work in the U.S. and successfully complete all required training and evaluations.
  • You’ll also need to complete the school district’s HR process for school volunteers or similar roles.

What We Offer You

We believe that the positive impact we have on our employees is a key measure of our success. Our work inspires everyone to be “change agents”. Mileage reimbursement is offered for travel between schools. Other benefits may be available, depending on the arrangement, consultant, or part-time employment.

If you are a passionate and flexible “impact maker” ready to help shape the future of global education, we encourage you to apply today and join our team!
