Remote | Unpaid internship | Potential to move into a paid role
Interested in startups and the people building them? Help us build Open Room, a highly curated community where founders support each other through the real challenges of building a company.
Our members include YC and Techstars alumni, repeat and exited founders, experienced operators and first-time entrepreneurs. We bring them together in small groups matched by stage and experience, meeting twice a month to work through everything from finding customers and hiring to fundraising and difficult decisions.
We also run a free cofounder matching platform, open to people worldwide. Our founders personally review profiles and suggest matches, with a written explanation of why they could work well together.
We’re looking for someone curious, thoughtful and organized to help us take care of the community and reach more founders.
What you’ll help with
Working with our founders, Itay Forer and Alex Prober, you’ll contribute to projects such as:
- Member support: Help welcome new members, answer practical questions and make sure people know how to participate and ask for help.
- Community engagement: Help start useful conversations, follow up on requests and surface opportunities for members to support each other.
- Sessions and events: Support scheduling, invitations, reminders, guest speaker coordination and follow-ups.
- Founder outreach: Research relevant founders, communities and potential partners, and help prepare thoughtful, personal outreach.
- Cofounder matching support: Help organize profiles and follow-ups while our founders handle the matching decisions.
- Community operations: Keep information organized, gather feedback and help improve the experience as we grow.
We’ll agree on a focused set of responsibilities based on your interests and learning goals.
Who would enjoy this
You’re interested in entrepreneurship and enjoy getting to know people. You write clearly, notice details and follow through. You’re comfortable asking questions, suggesting improvements and working remotely.
Experience organizing a student club, online community, event or personal project is useful, but previous startup experience isn’t required. Strong written and spoken English matters, as our community is international.
You’ll also need good judgment and discretion. Founders share things with us that they wouldn’t necessarily share publicly.
What you can learn
You’ll get hands-on experience in community building, founder outreach, event coordination and early-stage operations, working directly with the people building Open Room.
Itay co-founded a Y Combinator-backed company that grew from three founders to 400+ employees and now coaches founders and CEOs worldwide. Alex has built and scaled venture-backed and bootstrapped businesses and worked as a founder, CTO and investor.
You’ll see how we make decisions, receive feedback on your work and contribute ideas of your own. For someone interested in eventually building a company or working closely with founders, this is an opportunity to learn through practical involvement.
The arrangement
This is an unpaid internship. We’ll agree on the duration, weekly hours, learning goals and collaboration schedule before starting.
There may be an opportunity to move into a paid position later, depending on mutual fit and business needs. This is a possibility, not a guaranteed outcome.
