Interactive Designer, Brand
ABOUT RETOOL
Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.
At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.
Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!
DESIGN AT RETOOL
Retool designers make decisions that will affect millions of people, from the developers creating software to the employees who operate it every day. Instead of designing just one product, we’re effectively designing unique software products for thousands of companies across many different verticals.
This also presents a unique design challenge. Because it’s possible to build nearly anything in Retool, we don’t have absolute control over how our users experience the product. We’re constantly seeking just the right balance between convention and configuration, between technical expressiveness and conceptual simplicity.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our website is critical to Retool’s success: it’s the first impression of Retool for millions of visitors, and a trusted companion for customers as they learn the product. As an Interactive Designer you will play a key role in designing a cohesive, beautiful experience that tells the story of the power, flexibility, and speed of Retool. Our goal is not to settle on simply maintaining a cookie-cutter SaaS website: we aspire to win the hearts and minds of developers—and set the bar for the industry in the process. You’ll work on creative challenges across our marketing site, blog, documentation, community experiences, mini-sites, and more. This position sits within our Brand Design team and reports into the Head of Brand Design.

- Champion the brand and ensure that design is applied consistently across all aspects of the business
- Design through iteration, experimentation and learned user behaviors
- Develop patterns and define how elements on our site behave across different web surfaces at scale

THE SKILLSET YOU’LL BRING:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in visual design for web
- Experience and understanding of the formal elements of graphic design—not just limited to the web—including typography, color, layout, and composition
- Passion for the web as a medium, demonstrable through a portfolio of well-crafted work on interactive sites, design systems, data visualization, or similar
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively
- Strong grasp of interface-design skills—understanding of the impact of motion, viewport sizes, etc.

- A track record of successfully collaborating with design, marketing, and engineering partners to translate product needs, marketing insights, and technical constraints into informed design decisions
- Ability to independently prioritize work based on project objectives and business goals, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment
